A welcome letter from Miss Tyne...
Hello and welcome to the first grade page! My name is Kayla Tyne, and I have been the first grade teacher at SMS for two years. I was born and raised here is Streator attending local schools. I graduated from Illinois State University in 2015 with a Bachelors in Science focused in Early Childhood Education. In my free time I enjoy watching sports and working on crafts. Being a first grade teacher is such a delight, watching them grow and achieve new things puts a big smile on my face.
"Children want the same things we want. To laugh, to be challenged, to be entertained, and delighted." ~Dr. Seuss First grade is full of many fundamental skills to help students excel in the future.Within our classroom we use a Daily 5 focus where students are in charge of their learning and use many different activities to gain knowledge. Daily 5 is linked to our reading curriculum where we are helping students become independent readers. It’s important in our classroom to listen to our students read aloud each day to help boost fluency and confidence. Building fluency in addition, subtraction, and number sense skills is a big part of our math curriculum. Within our math stations we use Chromebooks, hands-on games/activities, and small group instruction. Students are learning how important it is to have God in our lives and how we can serve him through our prayers and mass attendance. When you walk into our classroom you will see students learning in a variety of ways: whole group, small group, partners, and individually. |
